Upper Respiratory Infections

Upper respiratory infections can be so challenging to deal with, be stubborn and linger – but they do not have to! Below are our go-to’s to help combat and help accelerate the healing time for upper respiratory infections.

Helpful Recommendations:

-Ensure all meals and beverages are room temperature, warm or hot. Cold food and beverages affect our “chi” or life force in Chinese Medicine, slowing down flow and healing time.

-Avoid sugar and dairy. These foods create A LOT of mucus and congestion in the body. Additionally, they help to feed and replicate viruses and bacteria in the body.

-Utilize essential oils: diffuse, create tea, or place under your nose, back of ears, on wrists: peppermint, thieves and or eucalyptus essential oils. These oils help to boost your immune system, clear sinuses and break up mucus.

-“All Natural Vicks VapoRob:” place 2-3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil into 2 tbs. of organic coconut oil. Mix into hands and then rub on neck, chest and upper back to support the lungs and upper respiratory system.

-Drink ginger tea with 1 tsp. of organic manuka honey to support and soothe sore throats.

-Steam inhalations: boil hot water in a pot with fresh ginger. Once boiling, place on low heat and put a towel over your head and inhale the steam about 12 to 24 inches away from the water.

-Immune Boosting Epsom Salt Baths: draw a hot bath and place 1-2 cups of Epsom salts, 1 drops of lavender essential oil and 1 drop of thieves essential oil. This detoxifying bath will soothe body aches and help support your immune system.

-Hot water + salt gargles: an oldie but goodie for a reason! Pour boil hot water in a cup and place 2-3 tbs. of sea salt. Gargle full cup of water and discard into sink. This helps to kill bacteria in the throat and mouth as well as soothe sore throats. Added bonus: add 2-3 drops of Orawellness essential oil blend into hot cup of water. You can find Orawellness at NWHS!

-Nutrition Response Testing: as always recommend N.R.T. to get the exact supplements you need to help support your immune system in fighting your infection. Some of our favorite supplements are: Bee Keepers lozenge’s, Bee Keepers + Standard Process’ throat sprays, Allerplex, Antronex, Resco, Pnuemotrophin and natural antimicrobials.

-On an emotional level, the lungs represent GRIEF or unspoken feelings, or tears that should, but never did shed. I know this is deep, but our bodies are a physical representation of our emotions. Sit and feel all of the emotions that need to be felt without judgement. Once we embody our emotions, they lose its power over our physical bodies.
